When the sink is clogged and you are wanting a headache-free solution, it’s tempting to reach for a chemical drain cleaner or the phone to call the plumber. These solutions can be costly and even unnecessary, especially when home remedies for a clogged sink are hiding all around you.

For this solution, make sure your sink is clear and then pour a 1/2 cup of baking soda down the drain and then follow that with a 1/2 cup of vinegar. Plug your drain. After 1 hour, boil a pot of water and pour it down the drain until the clog clears.
Soda has a mild corrosiveness that is strong enough to help unplug drains without being toxic or damaging to your pipes like a chemical drain cleaner is. For this solution, the soda should be warm. Pour the soda down the drain and leave it for an hour or two.
This solution is so simple that it is often overlooked by a frustrated DIY plumber. First, make sure any grates or stoppers are removed from the drain and then take the plunger and make a seal over the drain with it. With quick, plunging motions, work the drain until the clog clears.
This technique works great for grease clogs. The hot water and soap helps liquefy any grease that is causing the clog. Boil 2 liters of water and then add a few tablespoons of dish soap. Pour the mixture down the drain. This technique may take a few times to work.

First, place a bucket underneath the U-shaped part of the pipe, or the P-trap. This will collect any water that drains from the pipe. Now unscrew the slip nuts on both ends of the pipe and remove the P-trap. Now turn the U-shaped pipe segment upside down and empty it into the bucket. Then, using the tool of your choosing (an old toothbrush works well), scrape out any remaining gunk that is blocking the pipe. After cleaning the pipes, reinstall the P-trap. This solution not only is the most thorough but also has the satisfaction of getting to visualize the clogs removal.
