What feels better after a trying day than a nice long soak in the bathtub? If it’s time to update or replace your tub, there are some things to consider so that you get the “bathing experience” you’re dreaming of and the best fit for the room. Here’s a list of the best bathtubs depending on your bathroom layout.
Freestanding tubs are a great fit for older bathroom layouts where the walls are not on any sides of the tub. With a freestanding tub, you can add beautiful fixtures with handheld showers and different configurations of faucets to enhance your bathing experience as well as your bath decor. Freestanding tubs can be clawfoot or feature a base designed to hold the full weight of the tub. Tubs with a pedestal base offer yet another design option.
Freestanding tubs are also available as a “soaking tub” which is slightly larger than a standard tub. If you have a larger bathroom area, you can also install a drop-in tub that features a platform where the garden-style tub rests or an undermount tub that often has a deck surrounding it made of stone or a material that matches the bathroom flooring. Add a jacuzzi system or air jets for a seriously relaxing bath time.
Keep in mind that, with this style of bathtub, you’ll need to have water access through the floor and near the bathtub.
Alcove tubs are surrounded by three walls, leaving one wall wide open for entry. An alcove bathtub is typically a standard size and may include a bath/shower combination. Alcove tubs only have one finished side, since the other three are hidden behind surrounding walls. These are the most economical to purchase and install since there are few options and sizes.
There are two types of alcove tubs: a standard and a luxury version. The luxury version has a bowed front apron not only it gives the bathroom an upgraded look but it also makes the bathtub feel a bit more spacious. The luxury version has a striking visual appearance and can add to home value with its artistic impact and versatile look. The luxury version can also be modified to fit in a corner.
Corner tubs are similar to alcove tubs except the tub rests against two walls rather than three and the remaining sides of the tub are finished. The corner bathtub is perfect for small bathroom areas and comes in a variety of shapes and configurations but, typically, has a center drain and is surrounded by a deck where additional accessories like handheld showers and water jet controls are installed.
In addition to the bathroom layout, there are other features to consider. Soaking tubs, clawfoot tubs, whirlpool or Jacuzzi, and many other features are available along with a variety of materials and designs to make your bath a relaxing oasis in your home.
