Easy bathroom cleaning solutions

You don’t want your beautiful vintage bathroom design hiding behind a layer of mildew, dirt and bacteria. It’s important to keep your space looking clean not only to show off your bathroom design, but to preserve the life of your floors, tub, sink, shower, etc. Here are a few quick cleaning solutions for every area of your bathroom:

Bring life to dull brass fixtures
Brass, antique bath fixtures are a great match for clawfoot tubs and vintage sinks. Over time and with frequent use, it’s normal for them to lose their shiny finish, but it’s very easy to bring it back. You can make your own cleaning paste using baking soda and lemon juice. Dip an old toothbrush into the solution and lightly scrub your brass fixtures until they look as good as new. Wipe them down with a clean cloth after letting the mixture air dry a bit. If your fixtures have acquired mineral deposits, remove them with white vinegar by soaking the solution on paper towels and wrapping them around the faucet. Leave the towels there overnight and then scrub the faucet with warm water and dishwashing liquid.

Prevent mineral deposits on your tub
Make sure that the focal point in your bathroom – your clawfoot tub – is shiny, clean and free of mineral deposits by wiping it down after each use. Grab a terry cloth and gently wipe the tub and faucets to easily ward off soap scum and mineral deposits. This will help preserve the vintage look of the tub and maintain its beautiful clean finish.

Ward off mildew growth
It’s no surprise that the bathroom is the most humid room in your house, which is the ideal environment for mildew growth. If the weather permits, open your windows for roughly 30 minutes after showering or using the tub to air out the space and promote air circulation so that mildew doesn’t form.

Make your shower curtain liner good as new
Many think that once dirt and mildew begins to appear on the liner of your shower curtain that it’s time to simply throw it out and replace it with a new one. However, all you have to do is toss it in the washer with regular laundry detergent and about 1/2 cup of vinegar. Then put it in your dryer on low for about 20 minutes for a beautiful brand new liner.

Don’t forget about the ceiling
Believe it or not, your bathroom’s ceiling can get dirty too. Grime and mildew can easily make a home on your ceiling, so it’s important to clean up there every once in awhile. Fill a mop bucket with water and white vinegar and dip a sponge mop into the mixture, cleaning the ceiling one section at a time. Wear goggles to protect your eyes.
