Ball-type valves were one of the most widely used types of shower valves. However, stopping leaks on this type of shower valve might be easier than you think. Our goal is that by the end of this article, you’ll feel confident enough to tackle this project on your own. |
Remove handle. There will be a screw securing the handle–either under the plastic indicator button or on the neck of the handle. You can remove the indicator button by carefully prying it loose with a sharp blade or a very thin screwdriver. Otherwise, you can look around the base of the handle.
Remove the small cover button. Inside, you will find a set screw.
Loosen the set screw using an Allen (Hexagonal) wrench.
Remove the plate by unscrewing the 2 screws securing it.
Check to see if your valve is equipped with screwdriver stops. If it is, turn both valves in a clockwise direction until it stops.
If it’s not equipped with screwdriver stops, shut off the water supply at the water main. It is usually located somewhere in the front part of your house.
Remove the dome cap and gently pull the entire ball assembly.
You will see 2 round rubber washers.
Insert a small screwdriver and pull out the washers along with the springs under the washers.
Inspect all components. Replace both springs and washers. Re-assemble by reversing all of the above steps.
