For so many, the goal of a bathroom makeover is to create a serene environment.
To achieve this, some people bring in a clawfoot tub, which is the definition of relaxation. Its sloped backrest and deep basin make it the perfect vessel to soak the stress away. The greenery of nature is also soothing to many people. This is why interior designers often outfit bathrooms with potted plants and flowers. However, that is only dipping a toe into the world of garden-themed bathrooms. To completely transform your space into a rainforest-like paradise, take inspiration from these tips:
Clawfoot tub
Begin with a clawfoot tub and antique bath fixtures. When placed inside a bathroom, the bathtub provides a centerpiece for the rest of the design. However, in a garden bathroom, it can serve as the perfect backdrop to layer the colors and textures nature.
Vertical garden
Adding a wall of plants and flowers has long been a way to add interest to a blank wall in a garden. In recent years, interior designers have brought the concept indoors to dress up the living room. Now the trend has found a place inside the bathroom. There are a variety of ways to add a vertical garden to your space. You can go all in and choose one entire wall to cover in plants. Or you can opt for garden frames to add touches of the trend to your room.
Garden area
Some nature lovers choose to carve out a piece of the floor to dedicate to a garden. This could be set around the perimeter of the room or off to one side. If you choose this design in your space, be sure to look for a spot that receives lots of natural light. If you don’t like soil in your bathroom, opt for plants with large drooping leaves that cover the base. Or you can use pebbles and rocks to blanket the area.
Potting plants
For an easy way to turn your bathroom into a garden, look to container plants. With these you are free to add what ever aesthetic you like. You could opt for a large tree that reaches to the ceiling or a small perennial that sits on your countertop. However, while you are choosing what works best, consider how much light your bathroom gets and the maintenance level of botanicals. If your room has generous amounts of sunlight, you’re fine to bring in orchids, azaleas, gardenias and asparagus ferns. But if your bathroom isn’t as well-lit as desired, opt for snake plants, peace lilies, aloe veras and begonias. Lastly, spider plants, sansevieria and aspidistra plants are great low-maintenance options.
Wall tiles
While tiles aren’t found in nature, manufacturers can dye them in colors inspired by a rain forest. Dress one wall in a mosaic of emerald and hunter green. This is a great option when plants are not feasible in your space or you just want to drive the concept home.
