Nautical Design Ideas

Nautical designs have been a longtime style since the 1800s in both homes and fashion. Queen Victoria first dressed her sons in sailor suits; the navy blue and white stripes captivated mainstream consumers. Over time, nautical themed fashion was further popularized by Coco Channel in 1917, causing the style to gain traction that eventually led into nautical themed home design.

Today there are several iterations of nautical design in homes, from light and airy to cool toned and colorful. While the nautical style is best known for its use of blues and greens; textures such as tile, wood and stripes; and gold or chrome accents, a more updated version of this style also suggests shiplap as a new texture characteristic. Our new nautical inspired faucets are a must have when designing a coastal bathroom.

Now, this isn’t to say that the style attributes listed above are the only materials and colors that can be used to evoke the nautical design. As with all fashion and design styles, it is always evolving and finding new ways to redefine itself. Nautical is not a one size fits all design style, there is plenty of room for creativity and personal preference. Dare to redefine.
