Tile is used all over the home – on kitchen and bathroom backsplashes, in the shower and on floors. This material is sought-after for its durability, beauty, versatility and resistance to moisture. When picking out tile for your home, you have a number of designs, colors and patterns from which to choose. Keep your dwelling up to date with any of these tile trends:
Mosaic patterned tile
Mosaic patterned tile is typically big on color and detailing. These tiles are made of small colored pieces of inlaid stone or glass. Because of its intricate detailing, mosaic tile is best served as a backsplash in your kitchen or bathroom design. It can also be installed as an accent wall in your shower or used only along the bottom of your bathroom or kitchen walls. Wall detailing can add some color and detail to the space without overtaking it.
In order to best complement your mosaic tile, choose kitchen and bathroom faucets with a finish that coordinates with a particular hue in the tile. For instance, dark-colored mosaic tiles might be best paired with an oil-rubbed bronze faucet. Lighter tiles would be best served with a stainless steel or polished nickel faucet.
Geometric tiles
Tiles with defined, structured geometric shapes such as honeycomb, hexagon, bold stripes and chevron are being used to bring drama into the home. This stand out tile works as flooring, a backsplash or an accent wall. Wherever you use it, be sure to keep the rest of the room simple, so as to not overwhelm the space. Choose a color used in the tile and buy linens or a shower curtain in that same shade. Opt for neutral hues throughout the rest of the bathroom or kitchen.
Textured tiles
You’re always going to find at least a little bit of texture on tile, but flat 2-D tiles are taking a backseat to beveled tiles. These tiles resemble rustic stone or brick. The extra texture that comes with these tiles can take a wall from boring to beautiful. Beveled subway tiles are best for an accent wall or backsplash in your kitchen or bathroom, but never for flooring, as the texture would be a bit uncomfortable. If you want a modern, contemporary look in your home, opt for tiles with a shiny finish, but if you wish to achieve a cottage or farmhouse aesthetic, choose a matte finish for your textured tile.
