Play around with scale in your vintage bathroom design

Scale is one of the components of interior design that professionals consider, yet homeowners tend to avoid thinking about it. However, if you use scale and proportion to your advantage, you can have an expertly designed room. Here are some tips for working with scale in your vintage style bathroom:
Clawfoot tubs
Furniture, and even bathroom fixtures, follow size trends. Sometimes the hottest look is an oversized piece and in other years the small petite items come out on top. So your bathroom is always on trend, incorporate a mix between large and small pieces. For example, you can start with a clawfoot tub. It’s a large fixture and often serves as the focal point of the room. You can allow it to stand out even more by painting the room a contrasting color, like red, which pops against the crisp white cast iron tub.
Antique bath fixtures
Antique bath fixtures often are proportionally sized with your clawfoot tub, especially if they are made by the same manufacturer. So if you are going for a large tub and fixture look, opt for a freestanding faucet base with a handheld shower head. This will draw more attention to the basin because of the gleaming metal of the polished brass or chrome finish you select.
Vanity
To offset the large focal point in you bathroom, opt for a small vanity like a pedestal sink. It complements the vintage design yet doesn’t take any attention away from the tub. Additionally, the white color mimics the color theme in your bathroom.
Furniture
If you have enough space for a piece of furniture in this room, go big. Find a large chaise lounge with a tufted fabrication. This will work with your vintage bathroom design well while playing off of the scale theme of the room.
Accessories
Large – To have an equal balance of scale, opt for some large accessories, like oversized frames. You can have a floor-length mirror leaned against the wall to model a boudoir-like space. Or you can hang a large piece of artwork on the wall.
Small – Fill your bathroom with small trinkets that complement your style. For example, if you have a large makeup collection, bring in small apothecary vases to hold your toiletries. You can also find small indoor plants to place on the shelves and your windowsill.
