When homeowners remodel their home, they often think of their kitchen, bedroom or master bathroom, which leaves the basement area neglected. It’s a luxury to have extra usable square footage in this part of your home, so make sure it looks like a natural extension of your house. To do this, incorporate some of the vintage elements you have in other areas of your home decor, and start with the bathroom.
Half or full
Not all basement bathrooms look alike. Some are half sized and only feature a sink and toilet. Others are more complete and have a tub, shower or both. When remodeling your bathroom, you have the option of adding square footage to make it fit your needs. You can do this by knocking down a wall. Just be sure to speak with a qualified contractor first because electrical and plumbing work can be expensive if the systems need to be rerouted. Additionally, make sure the wall you tear down isn’t load bearing.
Tub
There is a variety of tub styles from which you can choose. For an extremely vintage look, opt for a clawfoot tub. It has decorative feet that elevate the unit, making it a focal point in the room. Additionally, you can select a cast iron model, which has a durable surface and great heat-retaining properties this comes in handy if you enjoy long relaxing soaks in the basin.
Antique bath fixtures
If you select a clawfoot tub for your basement bathroom, you’ll need vintage bath fixtures to match. There is a variety of options that match the finish color of the tub’s claw feet. Additionally, you can customize the faucets to meet your needs. For example, you can opt for a handheld shower head if you don’t have a standalone unit in the bathroom.
Shower
It’s quite simple to turn a clawfoot tub into a shower. All you need is a built-in rod that extends from the ceiling to hang your curtain. Or you can select a standalone shower if you have the space. This type of unit is great for those who want a relaxing shower experience, but be sure to choose the right fixtures. An oversized rain shower head and multiple body jets can be both soothing and therapeutic.
Accessories
For a fully designed space, add accessories. Make sure the walls are covered with picture frames or artwork, and you can bring greenery into the space with plants. If you have a window in the room, opt for transparent drapes that don’t obstruct the light.
