Bathroom sinks often work as a focal point of the room, tying the whole space together. It’s one of the most high traffic areas because it’s where people wash their hands, fix their hair, do their makeup and shave. Help your sink take center stage in your bathroom with these simple makeover ideas:
Clear off clutter
You could have a beautiful vanity and sink, but if there is too much clutter overwhelming the space, that beauty can easily be concealed. Take everything off of the countertops except for essentials like soap and toothbrush holders. Find an area to store those extraneous items, like in cabinets and baskets or on open wall shelving. Make sure to clear out the cabinet underneath your sink as well so that it doesn’t fill up and become disorganized.
Let it shine
To draw the eye to the sink, you’ll want to have the appropriate lighting overhead to highlight it. But instead of merely putting an overhead light near the mirror, which can create deep shadows and harsh lighting, use task lighting. Place sconces at eye level, which makes it easy to apply makeup, fix your hair, brush your teeth and do other activities that are a part of your daily routine. You may want to give your task lighting the ability to dim so your eyes don’t have to adjust to harsh light in the middle of the night.
For a vintage touch, you can add an ornate chandelier to the ceiling. It will give off a warm glow, complementing the existing task lighting.
A tiled countertop
Help your sink stand out in your vintage style bathroom by using textured tile. Not only does the surface stand up well to water spills, it provides a bit of character too. Go with a bold splash of color for a chic touch, or stay neutral for an earthy, antique bathroom.
Replace fixtures
Simply replacing the fixtures on your sink can make a world of difference. It can go a long way increating a beautiful interior design style for your bathroom. For a country-chic approach, opt for a pewter or nickel finish. But for a more traditional aesthetic, choose between silver, gold or bronze.
Frame the mirror
Enhance the mirror above your sink by framing it. Use a weathered wood frame or window pane for a vintage style bathroom. A traditional design may call for a more ornately detailed frame. You could even use tile to create a border around your mirror.
