- Wrench
- Sealant Tape
- Gloves
- Bucket
Common Steps for Installation
The following instructions are for a basic toilet trim kit. Installation instructions may vary by model and style of kit.
Installing the Angle Stop
Before installing any components, be sure to turn off the water to the toilet and drain existing lines into a bucket.
- Apply thread sealant tape to the threads.
- Screw the valve body onto the pipe.
- Place the nut and ring on the tube.
- Insert the tube into the valve.
- Use the wrench to tighten the nut onto the valve.
- Stop any leaks by tightening nuts slightly. (Be careful not to overtighten as this will cause damage.)
Installing the P Trap
Next, install the P trap.
- Remove the horizontal leg and the slip joint nut from the bottle trap.
- Apply Teflon tape to all exposed threads.
- Insert the slip joint nut and waste cover onto the horizontal leg.
- Insert the horizontal leg into the wall waste opening, do not tighten.
- Insert the black washer and slip the joint nut onto the tailpiece.
- Attach the bottle trap to the tailpiece and hand tighten the slip joint nut.
- Align the bottle trap with the horizontal leg and tailpiece. At this point, it may be necessary to cut part of the tailpiece or part of the horizontal leg to obtain proper alignment.
- After all components have been properly aligned, insert the horizontal leg making sure to insert the black washer before tightening the slip joint nut.
- Thread both of the slip joint nuts onto the bottle trap and tighten along with the slip joint, securing the horizontal leg to wall waste opening.
- Check for leakage by opening the faucet and letting the water run for at least 45 seconds.
