Installing a Kingston Bar Prep Faucet in Your RV

Measure the Faucet
The faucets used in RVs and fifth wheels aren’t standard fixtures but rather specialty designs made for the manufacturer. Replacements often cost a surprising amount and still tend to feature weak plastic construction rather than solid stainless steel. It’s fine to upgrade to any real faucet the owner prefers as long as it fits the exact spacing and number of holes of the current faucet. Bar prep faucets, such as the classic Magellan Bar Faucet with Lever Handles, tend to have a better chance to fit both kitchen and bath sinks in RVs and fifth wheels than other kitchen designs.
Find Water Line Adapters
RVs use small diameter and flexible water line tubing to supply fresh water to the sinks. Bar prep faucets are generally designed to connect to rigid PVC or copper piping instead. There’s no need to spend more on a specialty RV faucet now that so many different adapters are available. Simply find adapters that match the RV’s water lines and connect to standard faucet fixtures to overcome the incompatibility. Larger RVs and fifth wheels may not have this problem due to standard plumbing.
Remove Existing Hardware
Cut off the water supply via the valve located under the sink or at the main water tank. It’s tricky to reach the nuts securing RV faucets in place, especially in tiny bathrooms, so invest in wrench extensions and a good hands-free work light. Check with the manufacturer for specifics on particular removal instructions, which may come from the supplier of RV replacement parts.
Test the New Faucet
As long as the new bar prep faucet has the same spacing and number of holes, it should slide right into place after the old faucet is out. Connect the water lines and keep a bucket under the sink when turning the water supply back on. Test the faucet and look for leaks around the connections, the base of the faucet, and each of the taps. It’s easy to drop a washer or miss tightening a nut when installing a new faucet.
