The Process of Making Fireclay Sinks

Drying

Firing and Glazing

The firing process is a defining step in the creation of fireclay sinks. The molded sinks are subjected to high temperatures during the firing stage, which activates the chemical transformation in the clay, resulting in a hardened and non-porous surface. Fireclay generally exhibits low shrinkage when exposed to high temperatures. Sizes & Configurations

Kingston currently offers three sizes of fireclay farmhouse sinks: 30 inches, 33 inches, 34 inches. These are standard apron front sink lengths, with standard depths.

With a farmhouse style sink, there are many options for faucet configurations including wall mount, widespread, and pre-rinse. Wall mount faucets paired with a farmhouse sink saves counter space while infusing a touch of modernity. Widespread faucets are classic, but can be elevated by choosing a bridge kitchen faucet, which spotlights the fireclay material and faucet’s ability to present as both modern and traditional. 

As fireclay is essentially a handcrafted material, it is expected to find natural differences and unique characteristics from one sink to another.

How to Clean and Care for Fireclay 

To clean a fireclay sink, start by rinsing away any loose debris and food particles. Use a mild dish soap or a mixture of baking soda and water to create a gentle cleaning solution. Avoid abrasive cleaners or scouring pads, as they can scratch the surface of the sink. Use a soft cloth or sponge to scrub the sink, paying extra attention to any stubborn stains.
