POLISHED NICKEL

When we talk about polished nickel, some consider it a variation of polished chrome (In reality, it is a totally different finish). The color resembles chrome but with a slight yellow tint, making it a warmer option to your décor.

Although it gives a much richer look to your kitchen/bathroom, it is NOT categorized in the top five finishes.

The polished nickel finish is priced at 25-50% higher than chrome. Unfortunately, most end-users do not see the value of paying a substantial up-charge for a finish that looks very close to chrome, especially when it is not as durable as polished chrome. Being an electroplated finish, polished nickel does require some care and maintenance.

Satin Brass (Brushed Brass)

Subdued elegance comes to mind whenever thinking of the characteristics of satin brass–also known as brushed brass. It has the luster and richness of polished brass without the glitz. Because it is a brushed finish, it hides fingerprints and water spots reasonably well. The finish is a lacquered electroplated finish, but with proper care, it will look as new for many years.

Antique Brass

As an old favorite finish in the 70s and 80s, antique brass is becoming popular again. Its understated vintage elegance appeals to specific segments of the design community. One of the advantages of antique brass is that it does not show water spots as easily, however, you should still use caution when cleaning to ensure its durability. You also should be able to find plenty of matching bath accessories, making the entire design process that much more straightforward.

Matte Black

Black, generally considered a symbol of elegance and sophistication, is currently popular in kitchen and bath. And because it is matte, it adds an extra level of allure. One of the best reasons for using matte black is it can be used to accent any color scheme, or if used as the primary color, it can highlight any other color that you add as an accent. Some manufacturers such as Kingston Brass offer their matte black faucets with different accent finishes such as polished brass, antique copper, black stainless, polished nickel, and antique brass. It is a powder-coated finish so as with any other finishes of this type, you should be careful of watching out for any potential impact or scratching situation.

Antique Copper

The distinct color of antique copper is making a resurgence in the 2020s. Part of its appeal is that it adds a splash of color from the red hues of the copper. Subdued by the antiquing process, antique copper can be used in décors where the designer is going for a rustic look but want a bit more pizazz than the flat brown look of oil-rubbed bronze.

The main drawback is that there is not a large selection of matching bath accessories in the same finish. By its nature, copper will tarnish and patina, despite being an electroplated finish and having a lacquered coating.

However, with proper care, it should last you in its original condition for a very long time.
