The ceramic disc cartridge is the heart of the faucet, controlling its temperature and water flow. Internally, two opposing discs made out of ceramic carbide rotate to control the flow of water. Because ceramic carbide is impervious to friction, it can last for many years before needing replacement.

This was the perfect replacement for a hard to turn handle. Easy to do it yourself.

Needed replacement after 4 years

I had to replace both cartridges after just four years' use. Time will tell whether I should have bought a whole new faucet. Somehow washers look like a far better technology, cheap to buy, available, easy to replace. Sometimes technology does not get better, it just increases the profits of companies.
