Valentines is fast approaching, bringing with it the reminder that everything is roses when you have found your perfect match. This may be true for people, but sometimes you can sense a sort of love or attraction between everyday objects as well, like the furnishings that decorate your kitchen and bathroom. Do your faucet and sink have good chemistry? Are they a perfect pair? Sometimes there are no words to describe that initial spark, that undeniable wave of invigoration that washes over you and leaves a buzzing, wordless, epiphany that makes the whole body glow. As the epiphany fades into your bones, it’s replaced with the overwhelming relief of knowing, that right now in this single moment in time nothing makes more sense. At least it feels that way in the kitchen and bathroom.
Sometimes you can feel those feelings for your faucet and sink, or whatever other inanimate pair you are playing matchmaker for. Please note though that if your sink is literally crooning (making a high pitched hum), it’s not to impress the faucet, but it may be an indicator of high water pressure. To be fair though, if I was always so close, yet so far from the love of my life, I would have high blood pressure as well. I would probably sing sad love songs all day and night too.
What could be more Romantic than James Cameron’s vision of the sinking of the Titanic? The sink in your own bathroom! Sometimes the perfect match comes from somewhere unexpected, like a poor orphan from Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin that looks like Leo Dicaprio. This sink’s exposed underside seems blue-collar, but with its pipes out in the open, it refreshingly makes no effort to hide its true character. Those rough beginnings of the sink inspire its faucet girlfriend to radiate with even more elegance, like watching a flower bloom. Or Rose spit in the wind.
The kitchen is the pinnacle of complementing combinations. It could be the pairing of cheese with a wine, or an entree and a dessert. Just like how love is contagious, well-paired food leads to well-paired people. Nothing beats the removed intimacy of a romantic home-cooked meal for two. The tunnel-vision focus between two lovers drowning in suspense becomes a taut cable between ships drifting in the night, rippling with raw potential of what’s to come. That’s how these two faucets make me feel, like they would do anything to make this night last forever.
