FAQ 6
—
Q: What should I avoid in order to keep my Gourmetier sink in good working condition?
A: There are some basic things that you should keep in mind to maintain your Gourmetier sink:
1. Do not allow food or beverage residue, metal canned products or mild steel or cast iron cookware to remain on the sink surface for long periods of time as this can result in permanent staining of the sink.
2. Do not cut directly on sink surfaces.
3. Do not scour the sink across the satin finish lines. Scouring across the satin finish lines can damage the original sink finish.
4. Do not allow liquid soap or other household cleansers to dry on the surface of the sink. Most brands contain chemical additives which will affect the finish.
5. Do not use drain cleaning products that contain sulfuric or hydrochloric acid.
6. Do not leave standing solutions of chlorine bleach and water in the sink for extended periods of time. Chlorides, which are found in most soaps, detergents, bleaches and cleansers, are very aggressive to stainless steel.
7. Do not use a steel wool pad to clean your sink. Steel wool pads have a tendency to break apart and small particles of steel can become embedded in the surface of the sink. The steel particles will rust and will give the appearance that the sink itself has begun to rust.
8. Do not use rubber mats or dishpans in the sink to protect the finish. Leaving rubber mats or dishpans in the sink can lead to the surface rusting or possibly pitting. Instead, use stainless steel bottom grids. If you do use mats or dishpans, please remove them.
9. Do not leave wet sponges, cloths or cleaning pads on the sink.
FAQ 7
—
Q: What is an undermount sink? Is it more complicated than a self-rimming sink?
A: Fasteners are required to securely mount an undermount sink underneath the countertop so that the polished edge of granite or marble is exposed above the sink. An undermount sink cutout requires more polishing and installation labor than a self-rimming sink.
FAQ 8
—
Q: Can I cut out the hole in my countertop for my sink without a template?
A: This is not recommended. Gourmetier sinks provides a template on every sink for this purpose.
FAQ 9
—
Q: What is a self-rimming sink?
A: A self-rimming sink has a lip that folds over the countertop—resting on top of the countertop cutout.
FAQ 10
—
Q: What shall I do for routine care on my stainless steel sink?
A: There are a few things you should do take care of your sink:
1. Most dirt and stains: Use soap.
2. Watermarks: Wipe with damp cloth and then towel dry.
3. Disinfecting: Occasionally wipe surface with diluted household bleach (1-part water/1-part bleach).
4. Maintenance: Occasionally clean by filling the sink one-quarter full with a 50-50 water/bleach solution. Let it soak for 15 minutes, then wash the sides and bottom as the solution drains and is thoroughly rinsed.
