We partnered with Karen Ray on her kitchen + bath remodel, find out what her DIY build consisted of! |
Karen Ray (@ourblissfulcottage), is well-known on Instagram for smart building and beautiful DIY projects. Throughout her page, coastal hues, farmhouse styles and low country vibes can be seen and her page is the best inspiration for those building.
Karen provides us insight on where the majority of her inspirational ideas reign from, how to handle a budget while building and advice for those planning or who are in the middle of building their home.
My interest and love for design started years ago when me and my brother started a construction company together. A few years later, I opened a Bakery and loved the creativity of cake design and decorating
My design style is a mix of coastal cottage, modern farmhouse and low country all wrapped up together.

What are some of the common challenges you’ve encountered, big or small?
The biggest challenge is staying on budget.
I love the wide range of selections and quality of Kingston products!
1.Set up a budget. 2.Do your research before hiring a contractor or sub-contractor. 3. Be patient. A beautiful outcome takes time to achieve
By priority, cost or toughest? All off the above, but budget is front and center for most people.
Planning and finishing the project! 🙂
Shop products and contractors prior to starting any project. Have a plan and stick to the plan. Chances are you will go over budget, set a little extra money aside and be prepared. If you want to upgrade that flooring, those appliances, lighting, etc., it’s going to cost extra $$. Again, plan ahead and be prepared!
Not any one in particular. There are several that I love!
Last but not least, relax and enjoy the journey! Don’t sweat the small stuff because the end result will be something beautiful for you and your family to enjoy. I always say….you can ask all of the questions, you can do all of the research, but until you dive right in and experience it for yourself, you’ll never know how easy or how difficult something really is! xoxo, Karen
