The matte black finish has been a trendsetter since the moment it burst onto the scene a couple of years ago.
What was once considered a daring, unique, and edgy design choice, is now an everyday staple in many households. Matte black exploded in popularity late last year and now can be found in a variety of products, from silverware to faucets, to bathtubs, and even appliances.
We may have even extolled our love for this bold finish a few times ourselves. If you think this trend is slowing down anytime soon, think again. In fact it’s expanding. Black Stainless Steel is another trend that’s been sweeping the design world in much the same way as matte black.
But of course, these two finishes are probably nothing new to most design conscious people; Here at Kingston Brass we already offer a variety of products in both finishes. Which is why we’re excited to introduce the newest member of the Kingston Brass finish family: Black Stainless!
“But isn’t this the same as Black Stainless Steel?” You may ask. Not at all! Though similar in nature, each finish has a unique quality that sets it apart from the others. Let’s break it down!
What is it?
The black finish is accomplished by coating stainless steel with black oxide, a substance that also happens to add a degree of corrosive protection to the steel. Every time we reach for the refrigerator handle or turn on a stove, our hands deposit natural oils on the appliance. Over time, those repeated actions cause the rubs we see on stainless steel, but, thanks to black oxide, won’t see on black stainless steel. Plus, due to its darker color, fingerprints aren’t as obvious on black stainless steel. That’s a huge plus since stainless steel appliances are notorious fingerprint magnets!
Matte Black
This matte black finish lends a warmer, less industrial look to kitchen appliances and plumbing hardware than traditional stainless. The soft, almost velvety texture lends to it a chic and fashion-forward feel that blends beautifully into a modern, sophisticated space.
Black Stainless
The newest addition to the Kingston Brass product line, black stainless is in a class all it’s own. Featuring a unique brushed texture, this finish has a lighter, almost charcoal look when viewed from afar. A mixture between traditional stainless steel and matte black, black stainless offers a nod to the trends of the past and present.
I almost feel bad for anyone trying to decide between these finishes for their next remodel. Personally, we love all three of this beauties! It’s amazing to see the transformation that this finish has gone through over the years, and it will be even more interesting to see how it continues to grow. Which version of the black finish is your favorite, and how do you see the trend changing over the next few years?
