Breakfast nooks are perfect for making hectic mornings a bit more relaxing. This open space can be used for finishing up some homework over a morning meal, or simply for enjoying a cup of coffee as you read the Sunday paper. A breakfast nook can also be a casual way to bring families together for mealtime during the day. In order to make this area of your kitchen as functional and beautiful as possible, check out these decor ideas:
Build Near Large Windows
For an open and airy breakfast area, you’ll want to try and design your nook around large windows, whether they’re picture windows or French doors. These windows allow for a beautiful view of the outdoors while you enjoy your breakfast. Light can easily stream in and and warm up your kitchen and provide the room with ample lighting.
Find the Perfect Table
It’s best to find a table for your breakfast nook that matches the overall shape of your kitchen. For instance, if the space is long and narrow, you should opt for a rectangular table. But if the heart of your home is more square, you can select a table that is either square or round. This makes it easier for traffic to flow around the kitchen. Whichever option you go with, make sure that there is at least 36 inches all around the table. This way, chairs can easily be pushed in and out.
Opt for a Pedestal Base
Sometimes table legs can get in the way of comfort. For example, if you’re sitting in your nook trying to enjoy breakfast, you don’t want to have to constantly be fighting the leg for under-the-table space. When picking out your nook table, look for a style with a pedestal base to allow for plenty of foot room.
Consider Built-in Shelves
Breakfast nooks are there for relaxation, so why not have the necessary materials nearby? Under or above this area of your kitchen, make sure to install built-in shelving space. This way, you’ll be able to store all of your favorite books, along with plenty of games, magazines and more. Look for shelves with an ornate design to adhere to your vintage layout.
Incorporate Fresh Flowers
You can add color and personality to your vintage kitchen design with a vase filled with fresh blooms. It’s such an easy way to bring style to your kitchen – choose flowers that match the design of your kitchen. If your design has muted colors, look for bright buds that stand out. A kitchen filled with multiple shades may work better with neutral flowers.
